The Glasgow Highland Club is delighted to invite all Scottish schools to take part in the 2026 Schools Pipe Band Competition and Individual Piping & Drumming events.
Held early in the year, the competition gives young musicians the chance to perform in a supportive but competitive setting before the main season begins.

For Bands
Senior Bands compete for the prestigious Highland Shield
Intermediate Bands compete for trophies
Junior Bands compete for trophies
The additional prize for the 1^st placed band in each grade is to be announced shortly

Trophies for 1st & 2nd place, and Best Drum Corps in each grade.
For Soloists
- Junior Pipers compete for a trophy, the David Kettlewell Memorial Medal, a lesson with Roddy MacLeod MBE,
  and a full set of McCallum Bagpipes
- Intermediate Pipers win a lesson with Roddy MacLeod MBE (Gold Medallist)
- Senior Pipers win a lesson with John Wilson (Gold Medallist) and the Glasgow Highland Club Medal
- Senior & Junior Drummers compete for trophies and sponsor prizes
- Certificates awarded to those placed 1st–6th in every category
Band Grades
- Senior Grade – equivalent to Juvenile
- Intermediate Grade – suitable for experienced bands / Novice Juvenile A
- Junior Grade – development bands / new competitors / Novice Juvenile B

- Senior Piping – MSR
- Intermediate Piping – 4-part 2/4 March
- Junior Piping – 8-part March
- Senior Drumming – MSR
- Junior Drumming – 4-part March
Transport Support Available
Some bus support is available for schools who require assistance with travel.

Entries for the Glasgow Highland Club Annual Schools’ Pipe Band and Individual Piping and Drumming Competition are now closed. We look forward to seeing all our competitors, and their supporters and spectators at Hutchesons’ Grammar School on Sunday 22 February.

The Kettlewell Legacy to encourage junior piping – The Club is very grateful for the recent donation of the Kettlewell Legacy that will encourage and reward junior pipers (under 14) at the Annual Schools’ Competition – details are here.

Piping Practice Evenings are conducted both in person and using an on-line conference medium. These are held on Tuesday evenings from 19:00 (October to May) at The High School of Glasgow Pavilion, Old Anniesland.

Welcome to The Glasgow Highland Club

The aims of the Club are to:

Preserve the dance and music of the Highlands
Study the language, literature, history and antiquities of the Highlands
Encourage the wearing of Highland dress
